Help & FAQ

Answers to common questions about payments, bank accounts, and what to do when something goes wrong.

How payments work

Payments move between bank accounts and Dwolla Balances through the Dwolla payment system. A payment is created imomediately but is held for a short cooldown window, then submitted to Dwolla and settles over the ACH network. You can cancel a payment while it is still scheduled.

Linking a bank account

Add a bank account by entering its routing and account numbers, or link instantly with your bank. Manually added accounts are unverified until ownership is confirmed with micro-deposits (two small deposits sent to your account that you confirm by amount).

Micro-deposits

After adding an account manually, two small deposits (each under $0.10) arrive within 1–3 business days. Enter the exact amounts on the account's settings to verify it. Until then, the account cannot be used for transfers.

Failed or returned transfers

Transfers can fail or be returned by the bank for reasons such as insufficient funds or a closed account. You'll be notified, the transfer is marked failed, and any held funds are released. If a return leaves a balance negative, it must be brought back to at least zero.
